ALROSA says not in talks to leave JV with Endiama

MOSCOW, Oct 17 (PRIME) -- Russian diamond mining giant ALROSA is not in negotiations to leave its Catoca joint venture with Angola’s Endiama, an ALROSA spokesperson told PRIME on Tuesday.

On Monday, Africa Intelligence newswire said that ALROSA was negotiating withdrawal from Catoca, the world’s fourth largest open-pit diamond mine.

“ALROSA is not holding any negotiations on that matter,” the spokersperson said.

Catoca’s owners are Endiama, ALROSA, and China-registered Lev Leviev International. The mine accounts for more than 75% of Angola’s combined diamond output.
